In the beginning...
I would like to introduce myself, and my company,
to you. My name is David Anderson and several
years ago I started a business in Portland, Oregon
called “The Natural Salt Lamp Company”.
I began by selling naturally shaped Crystal Salt Lamps at County Fairs and Gift Shops
here in Oregon and Washington and at a Kiosk in
the Mall during the Holidays.
While at my first Gift Trade Show, I sold several
lamps to a Priest by the name of Pastor Thomas
Foley. Being a relatively new company, I asked
him if he would bless my venture and my family.
Gathered together in prayer he blessed the business,
asking God to give his divine guidance to me to
give me the strength I would need to pursue my
new endeavor. Upon finishing
his blessings, he bestowed upon me a simple piece
of advice… a powerful idea that was to change
my life forever.
He suggested that I create a special Salt Lamp
that could be used to pray with. He mentioned
how the light emanating from the Salt was so perfect,
and so powerful, that I should tie the concept
together with the empowering Verses from the Book
of Matthew: “You are the Salt of the Earth.
You are the Light of the World.” A Lamp
made of Salt that could express my beliefs and
those of like-minded Christians.
The Pastor’s idea was nothing less than
brilliant.
My parents had taught me as a child about another
verse from Matthew by which they lived their lives
of Faith. They believed in sharing their love
of Jesus and His love for them with everyone they
met. As it is written in Matthew 5:15, they explained
to me that when you have the Light you don’t
hide it, but instead you display it so the entire
World might see. It wasn’t until my conversation
with Pastor Foley that I found my way to share
the Light and my love of God. With the Internet,
the whole World would be able to see my expression
of Faith.
Natural Salt Lamps are being sold by many people
in the USA, in many shapes, sizes and colors,
as home decorations, or health aids, and, while
they are pretty, no one is offering this true
testimony to God’s love.
When Jesus spoke the words “You are the
salt of the earth…” he gave us the
wisdom and guidance to live our lives in a manner
that will let all others who know us understand
the power of right living. When he said, “You
are the light of the world…” he encouraged
us to bring his words to life within us and from
that time forward to let them shine outward so
that all the world could come to know His love.
As we bring his words to life, we renew the commitment
we have made to live our lives as shining examples
for all God’s world to see.
